London has recently become the hub for global health tech innovation and investment. Between the UK and US, $51.3bn has been invested in start-ups which is a 260% rise since 2016. Investment in the UK health tech industry has gone up 9 times from $420 million to $3.8 billion since 2016.
While the health care industry had come under great scrutiny during the pandemic, currently VC’s and governments are working towards helping companies in the space to digitise through investments and programmes. This massive influx of funding has led to more than 10000 jobs in health tech and several new innovative start-ups.
Even organisations like NICE, National Institute for Health and Care excellence, is extensively working towards supporting digital health technology developers. With a fund of £35 million, UK Research and Innovation, is focussed on using these finances to support growth in the digital health sector and address challenges associated with these developments.
The NHS also is riding this tech wave and is implementing important steps in digitisation of health care and adopting technology to help improve patent care. Some key components of NHS’s vision for the next 2 years include making it easier for patients to get online care, simplifying online appointment bookings for hospitals, increase the adoption of apps for people to manage their own health effectively, amongst others.
